The Village' depicts the thrilling tale of an isolated town confronting the astonishing truth that lies just outside its borders. At first glance, this village seems picture perfect, but this close-knit community lives with the frightening knowledge that creatures reside in the surrounding woods. The evil and foreboding force is so unnerving that none dare venture beyond the borders of the village and into the woods. But when curious, headstrong Lucius Hunt plans to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown, his bold move threatens to forever change the future of the village.

The Village, with its trademark twist ending, was the latest movie from M. Night Shyamalan, who shot to prominence with Sixth Sense and followed up his success with Signs and Unbreakable. Shyamalan has stated that the inspiration of the story comes from two unlikely sources: "Wuthering Heights" for the period drama, and King Kong for the community living in fear of predatory creatures. M. Night Shyamalan initially had a different concept for the "Those We Do Not Speak Of" Creatures. They were originally conceived to be monsters similar to the rock drawings featured at the beginning of the movie: similar to a Lion walking on its hind feet, complete with shaggy mane. When the creatures were built to full scale and brought on set, M. Night Shyamalan felt that the design was completely unbelievable. The creatures were quickly redesigned, most noticeably with the addition of the red cloak.
